We’ve all done the last minute cancellation of a hotel room, because our plans changed. But come next year you might not be able to cancel a hotel room booking without paying some penalties. Hotels are starting to take a cue from the airline industry on making more money off of us.
Beginning in January, Hilton and Marriott will charge a penalty to travelers who cancel a reservation too late. The penalty? One night’s room rate if a reservation is cancelled less than a day ahead of the scheduled arrival. Ouch!
Up until recently, hotels allowed travelers to cancel reservations on the scheduled day of arrival without penalty. Look for other hotel chains to follow the trend as well.
